Hannah Matthews set to join TIU Volleyball

DEERFIELD, Ill. - The latest addition to the signing class of 2017 for Trinity International Volleyball has been announced, as Georgetown, Tex. native Hannah Matthews is set to join head coach Luke Ward's squad this fall.

Matthews comes to Trinity after a successful career at Georgetown HS, where she was a Class 5A All-District honorable mention selection as a senior. The defensive specialist and libero is a two-time academic all-district award winner, and earned the AVCA Academic Excellence Award during her junior and senior seasons.

"I'm excited about Hannah and how great a fit she is at Trinity," said Ward. "She's been trained well and brings the ability to play multiple back row positions. Right away, she's going to be an improvement for our defense."

"TIU embodies everything that I was looking for in a university," said Matthews on her decision to sign with Trinity. "I love that the heart and soul of Trinity is at the hands and feet of Jesus. From my first visit, I felt at home. My future teammates welcomed me so graciously and allowed me to experience Trinity in its full extent, which was such a blessing. I am so excited for my future at Trinity and can't wait to call it home."

Matthews is the sixth member of a 2017 signing class that looks to make a significant impact on the Trojans volleyball program over the following seasons; she joins Deborah Kovalczuk (Curitiba, Brazil), Samantha Brenneman (Rossville, Ind./Ancilla CC), Katelyn Sommers (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Harper College), Masey Schmedes (Geneva, Ill.), and Madeline and Jaqueline Decker (Kenosha, Wisc.) as new Trojans for the upcoming 2017 season.
