Lamont Butler

Lamont Butler was named the sixth head coach of the Trinity International University football program in January of 2018 after previously serving as the Trojans defensive coordinator in 2016 and 2017, as well as running backs coach in 2012.

In 2016, Butler worked with a defensive unit that included Trinity's first-ever William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist in linebacker Riley Schussler, and cornerback Jarell Carter, who would go on to earn an invitation to rookie mini-camp with the Chicago Bears after a successful senior campaign. The defense would record 23 sacks throughout the year, the second-highest total over the past 12 years.

Butler helped coach the rushing game to one of their best campaigns in program history in 2012, when then-freshman Chris Elliott was named to the All-MSFA Midwest League First Team. Elliott set a new MSFA record with 347 rushing yards in a single game that season, and went on to break the all-time TIU rushing record as a senior in 2015.

Nine players have earned MSFA honors while playing under Butler as head coach. Additionally, two have earned All-NCCAA football honors.

After the 2012 campaign, Butler left TIU to become the head coach at Horizon Christian Academy in San Diego, California. His offense set new school records in 2014 in total offense, points per game, and passing yards, as HCA had two receivers record over 1,000 yards on the year. In the classroom, Butler's program produced 19 members of the Union Tribune San Diego All-Academic Team.

Butler played collegiately as a linebacker and defensive end at Grossmont Junior College in 2004 and 2005 before finishing his college career at Sacramento State University in 2006 and 2007. He graduated from Sacramento State with a degree in organizational communications in 2007.

Lamont currently resides in Wheeling, Illinois with his wife Janine Johnson-Butler and his son Langston.
