DEERFIELD, Ill. -- It took a little longer than expected, but a strong defensive performance and a breakaway goal from sophomore Eric Yamane gave the Trinity International Trojans their first win of the season, 1-0 over CCAC rival Trinity Christian, Wednesday afternoon at Schartner Field.

With the win, the Trojans (1-4-3, 1-1-1 CCAC) position themselves right in the thick of the early CCAC title picture, collecting four points in the first three matches, while only one team in the league still has a perfect record.

Yamane (Wheaton, Ill./Warrensville South HS) broke through the Trinity Christian back line in the 39th minute, timing his attack on a Joseph Sanborn (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond Burton HS) pass. The sophomore calmly put the ball past the keeper to earn his third goal of the year, most for any Trojan player this season. Junior Kevin Searle (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein HS) was also credited with an assist on the play.

The Trojan goalkeepers combined for the clean sheet, as junior Kevin Montelongo (Palatine, Ill./Lewis & Clark CC) started the match and made three saves. Senior Sean Avila (Winthrop Harbor, Ill./Zion-Benton HS) came in at the start of the second half, and finished out the shutout at the TIU defense held possession and did not allow a shot on goal the rest of the match.

The Trojans are back in action this Homecoming Saturday, October 5, when they host Olivet Nazarene at 4 p.m.
