BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- Despite a solid defensive performance throughout the day, the Trinity International Trojans found themselves on the wrong end of a one-goal game, falling 1-0 to the Roosevelt Lakers on Saturday afternoon in CCAC action. The Trojans held their opponents to two goals or fewer for the seventh time in their last eight matches, but could not punch in a score of their own as the Lakers earn the win.
The Trojans (2-9-3, 1-6-1 CCAC) withstood a 7-1 shot margin in the first half, as goalkeeper Kevin Montelongo stopped all four shots on goal in the first half. TIU got one shot on goal before the intermission, but the chance was cleared by the Laker goalkeeper. TIU was able to generate more offense in the second half, with five shots and one shot on goal, but were unable to get on the scoreboard.
RU's Jaime Zepeda finally broke through in the 62nd minute, moving the ball into the box and firing a shot that ricocheted off the far post and in.
Montelongo, who had an otherwise strong performance with five saves and just one goal allowed through 90 minutes, takes the loss. Chad Springetti led Trinity with three shots fired, including one shot on goal.
The Trojans return home next week, when they host Robert Morris on Wednesday, October 30. Kickoff at Schartner Field is set for 3:30 p.m.
