Trojans earn 2-0 win over Roosevelt

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- Hitting the home stretch of the regular season, the Trinity International Trojans earned an important victory, knocking off the Roosevelt Lakers on the road, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Toyota Park. Senior Ashley Bowman put TIU ahead for good with her first goal of the season, while Melissa Loretto picked up her fifth score of the season in the second half.
The Trojans (9-4-2, 4-2-2 CCAC) dominated possession, outshooting the Lakers 22-5 throughout the match. Bowman broke through in the 31st minute, firing a shot just under the crossbar for the goal. Jessica Williams and Kelsey Gill picked up assists on the play, just their first and second assists of the season, respectively.
TIU looked ready to hold on to the 1-0 win throughout most of the second half, until Loretto snuck a second goal past the keeper in the 90th minute. Samatha Yasatan and Bowman connected with Loretto with just 17 seconds remaining in regulation for the score.
Trojan keeper Liz Burzynski earned her fifth shutout of the year, and lowered her goals against average to 1.21 on the year.
With the win, TIU moves past No. 13 Judson in the CCAC standings, improving to fifth in the conference. The top seven teams in the CCAC will earn spots in the upcoming CCAC Tournament. The Trojans will return home for a mid-week matchup with the CCAC leaders, Robert Morris. Kickoff against the 22nd-ranked Eagles is set for Tuesday, October 29th, at 3:30 p.m. out at Schartner Field.
