DEERFIELD, Ill. -- The Trinity International Trojans hung tough with the highest scoring team in the CCAC through the first half, but four second-half goals gave the Robert Morris Eagles a 5-2 win, Tuesday afternoon at Schartner Field.
Sophomore Morgan Elzinga picked up from where she left off last week, following her hat-trick performance with the Trojans' first goal of the match in the 47th minute. Elzinga scored unassisted, picking up the rebound from a Samantha Yasatan shot and putting the ball away to even up the match 1-1.
The Trojans (9-5-2, 5-3-2 CCAC) fell behind in the 28th minute, when Robert Morris scored the first half's lone goal. RMU's Carolynn Wieland scored from a scrum in front of the goal after a corner kick to put the Eagles (12-2-1, 9-0 CCAC) in front 1-0.
Robert Morris dominated possession for the opening 15 minutes, but the Trojans gained some momentum and developed a few chances before the break. Still, the Eagles, who are undefeated in CCAC play, held a 6-1 shot advantage going into the break.
TIU would outshoot the Eagles 7-5 following intermission, but four of those five chances from RMU would result in goals. Just two minutes after Elzinga's equalizer, Wieland would score her second goal of the day to put Robert Morris back in front, 2-1, on a penalty kick after TIU was called for a foul in the box.
RMU would then score goals in the 51st, 58th, and 66th minutes to build a 5-1 advantage. Two of the three goals were scored by RMU's Florence Dadson, who ranked 2nd in the NAIA in goals scored entering the day.
Ashley Bowman earned her second goal of the year in the 89th minute, cutting the RMU lead down to 5-2 in the closing stages of the match. Bowman scored off the rebound when Kat Simonsen's header found its way in front of Bowman, leading to the goal.
The Trojans will head to Joliet for the final road trip of the regular season this weekend, when they take on the St. Francis Saints. The match at ATI Field in Joliet is set for Saturday, November 2, with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
