CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Trinity International Trojans suffered their toughest loss of the season, falling on the road to the St. Xavier Cougars, 5-0 Tuesday night. The Trojans were able to fire just five shots in the match, while giving up a season-high five scores to the Cougars.
The Trojans (1-6-3, 1-3-1 CCAC) held even with the Cougars (4-6, 4-1 CCAC) through the opening 15 minutes, until SXU's Marco Gutierrez scored what was ultimately the game winner from about 10 yards out. Gutierrez would go on to score the first hattrick against the Trojans this year, scoring again in the 59th and 71st minutes.
TIU went into the halftime break with a 3-0 deficit, after being outshot 9-2 before intermission. The Cougars controlled possession, winning the shooting battle 14-5 throughout the match.
TIU has been held scoreless for the past 231 minutes, after suffering back to back shutouts. Their last goal game in the 1-0 win over Trinity Christian last week. The Trojans will wrap up their quick two-match road trip on Saturday, when they face off against Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday, October 12. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
