ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. -- After over an hour and a half of scoreless soccer, the Trinity International Trojans broke through in the 100th minute, as sophomore Samantha Yasatan put the finishing touches on a 1-0 upset of top-seeded Robert Morris in the semifinals of the CCAC Tournament. Yasatan scored her 17th goal of the season to give her team their first trip to the CCAC Tournament championship match since 2008.
The Trojans (13-5-2) held possession during much of the opening portion of the game, but with the high winds and cold weather, neither team generated many shots. TIU fired two shots on goal in the first half, but was unable to get on the scoreboard.
The stalemate continued through the second half, as the CCAC regular season champion Eagles (13-3-1) started to gain momentum and generate some chances. Trojan goalkeeper Liz Burzynski made four saves after halftime to keep her team in the game.
The TIU defense stepped up in keeping RMU's Florence Dodson of the scoresheet; the CCAC leader in goals scored this season took just three shots on the day, with only one shot on goal.
In the final minute of the first overtime period, Yasatan broke away from the defense on the right side of the field, firing a game-winning shot over the top of the RMU keeper from about 20 yards out.
5th-seeded TIU will head to 2nd-seeded Olivet Nazarene this Saturday, for the CCAC Tournament Championship. Game time is to be determined and will be announced at a later date.
