DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Three players finished in double-figures as the Trinity International Trojans earned a 75-68 win over the Goshen (Ind.) Maple Leafs, Friday night inside the Meyer Sports Complex. Senior Montanique Washington led TIU with 24 points in the win, of 7-of-13 shooting, and a 10-of-17 performance from the free throw line.

Neither team were able to get into much of a rhythm, as a combined 63 fouls were called, 85 free throws were shot, and five players had fouled out of the game before the end of the night. The Maple Leafs (0-6) took an early lead, going up on TIU 5-3 with a Jo'Mani Thomas layup. Goshen's lead stretched to a peak of five points at the 15-minute mark of the first half, but the Trojans stayed close, climbing back into the lead with Abigail Hemmeger's jumper with 6:40 to play until the half. Both teams traded the lead back and forth until halftime, which saw a 34-34 tie at the break.

Throughout the first five minutes of the second half, neither team could pull away, until Arielle Miree's three-pointer at the 14:19 mark put the Trojans ahead 43-40, either team's largest lead of the second half. The Leafs battled back, however, using a 7-0 run to take a 51-46 advantage midway through the half. Following a Trojan timeout, DeAndra Wright completed a three-point play on the next possession to make it a two-point game once again. Goshen held a small advantage for the next few minutes, as the Trojans would tie the game four times but not ever move in front, until a 9-0 run put TIU in the lead for good, highlighted by a trey from Wright that made it a 62-57 game.

The Maple Leafs would tie the score one final time with 1:16 to play with a free throw from Avery Bischoff, but Hemmeger sealed the win with another layup and the foul to put the Trojans ahead 71-68 with 1:02 on the clock.

Along with Washington's 24 points, Wright picked up 14, while Clarissa Woodard scored 11 points in the win. Washington also led the Trojans in rebounds, with seven. TIU's two starting post players, in Woodard and Basha Ramsey, battled foul trouble all night, as both players fouled out of the game and saw an average of 16 minutes on the court each.

The Trojans will jump back into conference play next week, when they travel to No. 6 Roosevelt on Wednesday, November 20. Tipoff against the Lakers is set for 5:30 p.m.
