JOLIET, Ill. -- In one of his final matches as a Trojan, senior Tyler Wilcox scored his first collegiate goal, leading his Trinity International Trojans to a 1-0 victory over the St. Francis Fighting Saints, Saturday afternoon at ATI Field in Joliet. Wilcox put away the game-winner in the 82nd minute, ending a long defensive battle for both sides, and giving TIU their second win in the past week and a half.
The Trojans (3-10-3, 2-7-1 CCAC) looked to have a strong hold on possession throughout much of the match, outshooting St. Francis 7-4 in the first half, then increasing the pressure by outshooting the Saints 8-1 in the second half.
USF goalkeeper James Thorpe stopped all seven Trojan shots on goal in the first 81 minutes of the match, until Wilcox's game-winner. The Anderson, Ind. native scored on a header served up by midfielder Brett Robinson, who was credited with the match's lone assist.
Sean Avila earned his first start in goal in three weeks, and took advantage of the opportunity; the senior made three saves and recorded his first shutout of the season.
TIU will return to Schartner Field for the regular season finale next week, when they host Holy Cross on Tuesday, November 5. Kickoff for the final time in 2013 at Schartner Field is set for 2:00 p.m.
