CHICAGO, Ill. -- In their second straight road game against an NAIA top-ten opponent, the Trinity International Trojans struggled to find their shot, falling to the Roosevelt Lakers, 84-50, Wednesday night at the Goodman Center in downtown Chicago. Two Trojans finished in double-figures, but as a team TIU shot just 33.9% (19-of-56) from the field and committed a season-high 31 turnovers.
Senior forward Clarissa Woodard posted her second double-double of the season, with 11 points and 15 rebounds in the loss. Montanique Washington pitched in with 11 points as well.
Both teams got off to a sloppy start, but the Lakers (7-1, 1-0 CCAC) took a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes, thanks in large part to five straight turnovers from the TIU offense to start the game. The Roosevelt lead to grow to double digits by the 14:48 mark, as the team started on a 19-5 run to open play.
The Trojans (2-4, 0-2 CCAC) found themselves behind 38-17 at the halftime break, as just three Trojans, Woodard, Washington, and freshman Basha Ramsey, had gotten themselves on the scoreboard in the first half. A 13-2 rally at the start of the second half stretched the Roosevelt lead to 51-19 with 16:52 to play, as the Lakers controlled the tempo throughout the rest of the night.
Trinity International will now prepare for their trip north when they travel to take on NCAA Division II foe Wisconsin-Parkside. Tipoff against the Ragners is set for Friday, November 22, at 5:30 p.m.
