DEERFIELD, Ill. -- With their ticket punched to this weekend's CCAC Tournament, the Trinity International Trojans improved their chances at a higher seed with a 4-1 victory over Holy Cross, Wednesday afternoon at Schartner Field. Sophomore Morgan Elzinga was involved in all four Trojan goals, recording three assists while scoring one herself in TIU's 11th win of the season.

The Trojans (11-5-2, 6-3-2 CCAC) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, putting up a pair of goals within the first ten minutes of the match. Rachel Chapuis put away the team's first score in the 6th minute, connecting on a corner kick from Elzinga. Just one minute later, Elzinga took the leading pass from Gina Collesano, and found Samantha Yasatan for a goal, coming in from the right side of goal. The Trojans had a 2-0 advantage after less than seven minutes, as Yasatan tallied her 15th goal of the season.

After assisting with the first two goals, Elzinga got on the scoresheet herself, floating a shot over the Holy Cross goalkeeper in the 19th minute, putting Trinity ahead 3-0. Yasatan then put away her 16th goal, connecting on a cross from the right side, as the Trojans took a 4-0 lead after just 24 minutes of play.

Holy Cross (3-14, 0-11 CCAC) answered with a quick strike in the 25th minute, as HCC's Mayte Benavides fired from the top of the box to make it a 4-1 score.

The offense slowed down significantly in the second half; after holding a 13-3 shot advantage over Holy Cross in the first half, TIU only took four shots after the break, compared to the Saints, who took just one.

Depending on the outcome of a few matches on the final day of the CCAC regular season, the Trojans will find out who their opponent will be for Saturday's CCAC Tournament Quarterfinal match. The tournament is set to kickoff this Saturday, November 9, at a site to be determined. Details for the Trojans' CCAC Tournament match will be announced as soon as they are available at TIUtrojans.com.
