The Trojans (1-0) dominated possession early in the match, earning a pair of corners within the first six minutes of the match. TIU earned a total of five corners before sophomore Samantha Yasatan (Racine, Wisc./J.I. Case HS) put away the team's first goal of 2013. Yasatan took the back pass in the 26th minute from a teammate before chipping the ball over the Saints keeper for the score. The team's leading scorer from a year ago, and an All-CCAC Second Team honoree, Yasatan fired a match-high six shots, including four shots on goal in the win.

Less than two minutes later, the TIU defense was called for a foul in the box, as the Saints (0-1) earned a chance to tie the match on a penalty. SHU's Carlee Pallett scored her first goal of the year, evening the score at 1-1.

Before the end of the first half, the Trojans would attack again, as freshman midfielder Marta Sobey (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock HS) scored in her collegiate debut in the 34th minute. Sobey took a header from the top of the box, which snuck into the goal as the keeper came out to try and punch the ball clear.

Senior keeper Elizabeth Burzynski (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Barrington HS) earned her first win of the season, while making four saves on the night.

With the win, the Trojans win their second straight season opener, and will return home for a pair of matches this weekend and a chance to remain unbeaten on the year. TIU hosts Lindenwood-Belleville this Friday, August 30 at 2 p.m., followed by a match with NCAA Division III foe Greenville on Saturday, August 31 at 1 p.m. Both matches take place at Schartner Field; for fans who won't be able to attend, a live webstream will be available for both matches at www.tiutrojans.com.
