TIU Volleyball falls in four sets to Roosevelt, St. Francis (Ind.)

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Trinity International Trojans volleyball squad hung tough, but ultimately fell in four games in each of their season-opening matches Friday at the Trinity Christian/St. Xavier Crossover Classic.
The Trojans (0-2) kicked off the 2013 season by facing off against CCAC foe Roosevelt, and had the match tied at one set apiece before dropping two tough games, 18-25, and 22-25.
Junior Julie Gregornik (Darien, Wisc./Faith Christian HS) led the team with 10 kills against the Lakers, while hitting for a .185 percentage. Melodee Aguirre (San Diego, Calif./Palomar CC) had a strong performance in her Trojan debut, collecting seven kills with a team-high .222 hitting percentage.
Five Trojans finished with double-digit digs against Roosevelt, led by senior Brittany Najera (San Fernando, Calif./First Lutheran HS), who collected 17 digs.
In the second game of the day, St. Francis (Ind.) took a 25-11, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15 win over the Trojans. Senior Victoria Boyd (Addison, Ill./Addison Trail HS) led TIU with 12 kills, while hitting .308 in the match. Four more Trojans finished with double figures in digs, this time with Gabrielle LaMonica (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood HS) collecting 19 digs.
Trinity will get back in action Saturday morning to wrap up the weekend; the day kicks off with a 10:00 a.m. showdown with Siena Heights (Mich.), followed by a meeting with Spring Arbor (Mich.) at noon to finish out the tournament.
