BANNOCKBURN, Ill. - Senior Jared Ventura (Pleasant Prarie, Wisc./Kenosha Christian Life HS) scored his first goal of the 2013 season, but the Trinity International Trojans (0-1-1) ultimately fell to the Greenville Panthers (1-0), 2-1 in what became the home opener for the Trojans after Friday night's cancellation.
Ventura scored in just the second minute of the match, after catching the Greenville keeper away from the goal in an attempt to clear the ball. TIU held the one-goal lead until the 20th minute, when Greenville's Aaron Mulholland put the ball in the back of the net from the top of the box, following a rebound from a previous shot.
All the scoring throughout the game took place in the first half, as the Panthers took a 2-1 lead into the break following Lucas Miller's score off a free kick in the 42nd minute.
Trojan goalkeeper Kevin Montelongo (Palatine, Ill./Lewis & Clark CC) entered the game at the start of the second half, making a pair of saves and keeping TIU in the match by shutting out the Panther attack the rest of the game.
The Trojans will now look ahead to their match this Friday, when they play host to the St. Ambrose (Iowa) Fighting Bees. Scheduled as a double-header with the TIU women's team, the match is set to kickoff at 5 p.m. at Mark Schartner Field.
