Men's Soccer falls to Judson in conference opener

DEERFIELD, Ill. -- The Trinity International Trojans struck early, but couldn't hold on to the lead as TIU fell to the Judson Eagles 4-1 Tuesday afternoon at Schartner Field.
Senior Jared Ventura scored his team-leading second goal of the season in the 7th minute, following up on a deflected header from the throw-in by David Hasbani, who was credited with the assist. The Trojans only briefly held the 1-0 advantage, however, as JU's Walter Lopez scored the equalizer in the 9th minute.
Judson (6-1, 1-0 CCAC) tacked on their second score before the half, when Jason Mok scored off a corner kick in the 33rd minute. The Trojans (0-4-2, 0-1 CCAC) were outshot by the Eagles in the first half, 7-3, but did have the advantage on corner kicks, taking five compared to Judson's three.
Senior goalkeeper Sean Avila started the first half, making two saves while allowing a pair of scores. Junior Kevin Montelongo came in at the start of the second half, and finished with the same stat line; two goals allowed while making a pair of saves.
Judson put away their first goal of the second half in the 59th minute, when Michael Berrequin floated a ball over the keeper and in for the 3-1 edge. Santiago Munoz capped off the scoring in the 72nd minute, putting the Eagles ahead 4-1 with his header.
The Trojans are back in action this weekend, when they continue the conference schedule with a trip to Purdue-Calumet on Saturday, September 28. Kickoff at Munster HS in Munster, Ind. is set for 7 p.m.
