Trojan volleyball drops straight-set match to St. Xavier

DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Three Trojans finish with the team lead in kills, but unforced errors proved to be too much to overcome as Trinity International fell to the St. Xavier Cougars, 19-25, 15-25, 10-25, Tuesday night inside the Meyer Sports Complex. TIU committed 23 attack errors, finishing with a -.060 hitting percentage in the match.

Juniors Melodee Aguirre, Samantha Stoller, and Julie Gregornik all finished with a team-high four kills in the match, with Gregornik posting a team-high .045 hitting percentage (4-3-22).

Defensively, Gabrielle LaMonaca picked up 13 digs to lead the Trojans (1-8, 0-3 CCAC), while freshman Suzanne Knudtson was not far behind with 11 digs of her own, matching a career-high.

The Trojans hung tight in the first set after overcoming a five-point run from the Cougars (6-6, 1-1 CCAC) to start the match. TIU finished the opener with four of the last six points, but ran out of time, dropping the first game by six., 25-19.

The busy week continues for Trinity, who have six matches on their plate before the end of the weekend. TIU will travel to Chicago to face former CCAC rival and current NCAA Division III member Illinois Tech on Thursday, September 26, before competing in the Wheaton Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Tipoff for the match with Illinois Tech is set for 7 p.m.
