DEERFIELD, Ill. -- In their third straight match against a nationally-ranked opponent, the Trinity International Trojans battled shot-for-shot with the No. 17 Judson Eagles, earning the 2-2 draw in what was the CCAC opener for both sides at Schartner Field on Wednesay afternoon. Sophomore Samantha Yasatan scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, putting away the tying score that led to a point for TIU.
The CCAC's second-leading scorer was the first to strike, as Judson (4-1-2, 0-0-1 CCAC) took the 1-0 lead in the 12th minute with Angela Bianchi's goal. The Trojans (4-2-1, 0-0-1 CCAC) quickly recovered, and found the equalizer off the head of junior Rachel Chapuis in the 15th minute. Chapuis scored her first goal of the season off a free kick delivered by senior Nikki Roeder, who picked up her first assist this year.
In the closing minutes of the first half, Bianchi struck again, scoring on a shot chipped over the keeper in the 35th minute to give the Eagles a brief 2-1 lead. Again Trinity answered, as Yasatan fired a shot from the left side of the 18-yard box, getting the ball by the keeper in the top left corner of the goal to make it a 2-2 game in the 40th minute. Sophomore Rachel Gasper earned her first assist of the season, taking the throw-in from Kathryn Simonsen and feeding Yasatan for the goal.
After four goals in the first forty minutes, the attack from both sides would be shut down, as Trinity and Judson kept each other off the scoreboard for the remaining seventy minutes.
Possession remained fairly even throughout the match, as Judson outshot the Trojans 12-7 in the first half, but only 17-15 for the match overall. Trinity earned nine corners compared to just two for the Eagles, but were not able to gain an edge on the scoresheet.
Senior keeper Elizabeth Burzynski played a solid game, making seven saves and matching her season high, first set at Cumberland (Tenn.) on Sept. 14.
The Trojans head right back out on the road, as they travel to Munster, Ind., to face the Purdue-Calumet Peregrines on Saturday, September 28. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Munster High School.
