MUNSTER, Ind. -- For the third time in the last three matches, the Trinity International Trojans needed an extra twenty minutes to determine an outcome, as TIU picked up a point in a CCAC road match, drawing 1-1 with the Purdue-Calumet Peregrines on Saturday night at Munster High School.
The Trojans (0-4-3, 0-1-1 CCAC) held strong throughout the first half, as Purdue-Calumet outshot TIU 9-1. Only three of those shots were on target, however, as keeper Kevin Montelongo picked up a pair of saves before half. The Peregrines (5-2-2, 1-1-1 CCAC) broke through in the 38th minute, when PUC's Sahid Navarro scored to put his team on top 1-0.
Possession evened out in the second half, with both sides firing seven shots apiece. Greg Navitsky put away his first goal of the season, after the Peregrine defense was called for a penalty in the 62nd minute, which the senior cooly put away to tie the match 1-1.
Both sides would be shut out throughout the rest of regulation and the two overtime periods, where Purdue-Calumet would take 11 shots but could not break through the TIU defense.
The Trojans will return home next week, when they will host Trinity Christian on October 2, and Olivet Nazarene on October 5, to celebrate homecoming week. Kickoff for both matches are scheduled for 4 p.m.
