Trojans shut out Purdue-Calumet, 5-0

MUNSTER, Ind. -- Senior goalkeeper Liz Burzynski made two saves while earning her second clean sheet of the season, as the Trinity International Trojans knocked off the Purdue-Calumet Peregrines, 5-0, Saturday night at Munster High School. Sophomore Samantha Yasatan extended her team lead by picking up two goals on the night, leading the Trojans to three points and their first conference victory.
The Trojans (5-2-1, 1-0-1 CCAC) got the scoring underway early, as Yasatan connected on the pass from Morgan Elzinga in the 6th minute to put her team ahead 1-0. Later in the first half, freshman Megan Blackburn put away the Trojans' second goal, in the 29th minute.
Senior Abby Wagenmaker scored her first goal of the season to cap off a big first half, taking the pass from Marta Sobey, who was credited with the assist, in the 43rd minute. The Trojans went into the break ahead of Purdue-Calumet 3-0.
Yasatan scored her eighth goal of the year in the 62nd minute, assisted by Nikki Roeder and Kelsey Gill. Yasatan is now just one more goal away from her team-leading nine goals scored all of last season.
After assisting on the first goal of the match, Elzinga got on the scoresheet with the fifth and final goal, in the 67th minute. Melissa Loretto assisted on the play, as the Trojans surpassed their season high for goals in a game.
The Trojans host a pair of CCAC contenders next week, with Trinity Christian coming to Schartner Field on Tuesday, October 1, followed by 8th-ranked Olivet Nazarene for homecoming weekend, on Friday, October 4. Both matches are set to start at 4 p.m.
