DEERFIELD, Ill. -- In just her second game of the season, sophomore JaToya Woods led Trinity International with 11 points, in TIU's 73-47 loss at the hands of the Indiana-South Bend Titans, Wednesday night at the Meyer Sports Complex. The Trojans never managed to get into an offensive rhythm, shooting 22.0% from the field, by going 18-for-82 on the night.
In a game where the Trojans committed six fewer turnovers than their opponents and battled the Titans to a draw on the boards, the cold shooting wound up as the main culprit in the loss. TIU (3-13, 0-8 CCAC) shot a season-high 82 field goal attempts, but connected on a season-low percentage (.220).
The Trojans never led but hung close in the opening minutes, until a 6-0 run from the Titans (13-5, 3-3 CCAC) pushed the IUSB lead to 14-5 with 13:16 to play until the half. The lead stretched to double digits when IUSB Kilee Knafel knocked down a jumper just inside the 10-minute mark of the half, making it an 18-7 game. The TItans went into the break with a 36-17 advantage, as senior Abigail Hemmeger was the leading Trojan at the break, with six points.
TIU would close the gap to 15 points with Basha Ramsey's layup with 16:37 to play, but that would be as close as they would get. The Titans answered with a 15-4 run over the next five minutes to put the game away.
Trinity International will hit the road again this Saturday, when they travel to take on Purdue-Calumet starting at 1 p.m. The next home game for TIU is set for Wednesday, January 22, when the Trojans face off against Olivet Nazarene, at 5:30 p.m.
