HAMMOND, Ind. -- Freshman guard Thomas Amrine scored a team-high 16 points, as the Trinity International Trojans suffered a road CCAC defeat at the hands of the Purdue-Calumet Peregrines, Saturday afternoon in the PUC Fitness & Recreation Center. TIU scored a season-low 16 first-half points, shooting 23.8% (5-21) from the field before the halftime break.
The Trojans (3-16, 1-7 CCAC) were behind 18-2 after the opening six minutes of the game, before Nate Ball and James Glass scored on back-to-back possessions to slightly trim the defecit. After Amrine's three-pointer at the 3:14 mark of the first half, the Peregrines (15-4, 7-2 CCAC) scored 12 unanswered points to claim a 46-16 halftime lead.
Purdue-Calumet then scored the first eight points of the second half, including back-to-back fast break layups following a pair of TIU turnovers, to go up by a 54-16 margin, with 18:25 to play. The Trojans came back to outscore the Peregrines, 44-40 in the second half, thanks in part to a 47.1% shooting performance from the field, an improvement of nearly 25% from the first half.
Along with Amrine's 16 points, junior Matt Heber earned his first career start, and responded by scoring a career-high 13 points, on 6-of-9 shooting.
The Trojans are back in action this Wednesday, January 22, when they host Olivet Nazarene. Tipoff against the Tigers is set for 7:30 p.m.
