Miree, Carter score career highs, but Trojans fall to Calumet St. Joseph

WHITING, Ind. -- Three players finished in double figures, as the Trinity International Trojans were unable to overcome an eight-point halftime deficit, falling to the Calumet St. Joseph Crimson Wave, 66-55. Freshman guard Arielle Miree recorded a career-high with 16 points, including a 4-for-4 performance from three-point range. Center Rachel Carter also had a career night, as the freshman scored 14 points on the night.
The Trojans (3-16, 0-11 CCAC) held an early lead, as JaToya Woods knocked down a jumper to put TIU ahead, 9-7, at the 12:24 mark of the first half. Daja Johnson gave her team their biggest lead of the night on the following possession, as Trinity International would take a four-point advantage near the mid-point of the first half.
With a 13-11 Trojan lead, the Crimson Wave (11-11, 4-7 CCAC) used a 13-0 scoring run to claim the lead for the rest of the night. Calumet took a 25-13 lead with 5:54 to play before the half on Crystal Daniels' three-pointer, and would hold a nine-point edge going into the break.
CCSJ held a double-digit lead throughout most of the opening moments of the second half, until back-to-back three-pointers from Clarissa Woodard made it a four-point game with 12:58 to play. The Crimson Wave answered with five unanswered points to quickly expand their lead back to nine points, where they would stay in front the rest of the way.
Along with Miree and Carter, Woods also reached double figures on the night, recording 10 points. The Trojans return home this weekend, when they host the Roosevelt Lakers on Saturday, Feburary 1. Tipoff against the Lakers is set for 5:30 p.m.
