NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Junior forward
David Chatman led Trinity International for the first time in his Trojan career, with 11 points, as TIU fell to the defending NCAA Division III national champions Wisconsin-Whitewater, 95-72, in the second day of the Chicago Marriott Naperville Tip-Off Classic, hosted by North Central University.
Box Score | Season StatsThe Warhawks held a lead from start to finish, as Cody Odegaard opened the game with a three-pointer just 17 seconds into play. Whitewater hit another three on their next possession, but the Trojans would make it a one-possession game three times throughout the first half, with
James Glass' layup at the 8:23 mark making it a 28-25 Warhawk lead. From that point, Whitewater outscored the Trojans 19-7, en route to a 47-32 halftime lead.
Chatman led the way in the first half, with seven points on 3-for-4 shooting.
Nate Ball picked up four points and four rebounds before the break. TIU were unable to make much of a run in the second half, as Whitewater was able to take advantage of some Trojan foul trouble while closing out the game.
"Whitewater is the No. 1 ranked Division III team for a reason," said head coach Boomer Roberts. "They really took advantage of our mistakes. Our schedule certainly hasn't given us any favors, but we only have one choice. We need to get up off the mat and scrap."
Trinity will have that opportunity this Tuesday, when they resume CCAC play against No. 2 Cardinal Stritch at the Van Dixhorn Arena. Tipoff against the Wolves is set for 7:30 p.m., on November 25.
