Stauffer leads TIU with 20 points in win over Judson

Freshman picks up 3rd double-double of the season as Trinity International ends skid with 71-60 win against the Eagles.

Box Score ELGIN, Ill. -- Overcoming a second-half deficit, the Trinity International Trojans ended their 13-game slide with a 71-60 win road win over the Judson Eagles on Wednesday night. Freshman forward Andy Stauffer led the way with 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Trojans, recording his third double-double of the season. 

Trinity International (4-23, 2-14 CCAC) held an early lead, going ahead 10-4 over the first five minutes of action, from five points apiece from Stauffer and junior Justin Peeples. Freshman Thomas Amrine capped the early run off with a three-pointer at the 13:08 mark of the first half, pushing the TIU lead to 13-4. 

Judson (6-21, 3-13 CCAC) answered with a 13-2 run midway through the first half, taking their first lead of the night on a three-pointer from JU's Will Woodhouse with 6:48 to play until halftime. The Eagles outscored TIU 10-5 from that point until the end of the half, and claimed a 29-22 advantage at the break.

The Eagles took their biggest lead of the game less than five minutes into the second half, when Turner Schwarz knocked down a jumper to make it a 36-28 Judson lead. Amrine led the following TIU rally, knocking down a pair of three-pointers and scoring a total of eight points during a 20-4 run. Stauffer gave the Trojans the lead on a layup at the 12:28 mark, while sophomore Josh Markum capped the run off with a three-pointer, putting the Trojans ahead 48-40 with 10:28 to play.

The Trojan lead would reach as much as 14 points when Markum hit his second trey of the night with 7:01 remaining, as Trinity International would take control the rest of the way for an 11-point victory.

Amrine picked up 13 points off the bench, going 5-for-8 from the field, and 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Markum and Peeples pitched in with 10 points apiece. Peeples also led TIU with four assists, while Amrine collected a team-high three steals in the win.

Trinity International will look to make it a two-game win streak this weekend, as they gun for a possible upset when No. 5 St. Xavier come into the Meyer Sports Center on Saturday, February 15. Tipoff against the Cougars is set for 7:30 p.m.
