TIU Women's Basketball drops final game of season against St. Francis

Four Trojan seniors were recognized as part of Senior Night, as Trinity International falls to the Fighting Saints, 76-57.

Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Senior Abigail Hemmeger led the Trojans with 15 points, as Trinity International closed out the 2013-14 season with a 76-57 loss at the hands of the St. Francis Saints, Saturday night in the Meyer Sports Complex. Four TIU seniors were honored before the game as part of the Senior Night festivities.

Before the tipoff, Hemmeger, along with Clarissa WoodardMontanique Washington, and DeAndra Wright were recognized along with their friends and families. TIU (3-24, 0-18 CCAC) opened play with an early lead, as Woodard put away the first bucket of the game, off an assist from sophomore JaToya Woods.

St. Francis (8-22, 6-11 CCAC) answered with five straight points to claim a 5-2 lead with 17:09 to play in the first half. The Trojans were never able to reclaim the lead as the Saints slowly pulled away. A jumper from USF's Leah Avery put the Saints ahead by double digits for the first time, 18-8, at the 10:53 mark.

The Saints' lead grew to as much as 18 points in the first half, 31-13, with six and a half minutes remaining. The Trojans answered by closing out the half on a positive note, outscoring USF 12-6 in the closing minutes and chipping the deficit down to 37-25 at the half.

Woods knocked down a second-half jumper with 16:21 to play that pulled the Trojans to within single digits, trailing St. Francis 39-30. The Saints used another run to distance themselves, however, scoring six unanswered points, including a 4-for-4 run from the free throw line, to go up 45-30 at the 14:51 mark.

Freshman Rachel Carter scored on a put-back to make it a ten-point game with 12:16 on the clock, but that would be as close as the Trojans would get, as St. Francis claimed the 76-57 win.

Along with her team-high 15 points, Hemmeger also dealt out four assists on the night to lead TIU, and recorded three steals on the defensive end. Woodard posted nine points and four rebounds in her final game for TIU.

Forward Basha Ramsey, along with Carter, led the bench with six points apiece. Ramsey also pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

Trinity International finishes the season with a record of 3-24, and 0-18 in the CCAC.
