TIU Women's Basketball falls to No. 6 St. Xavier

Turnovers cost Trinity International the chance to pull off upset over nationally-ranked Cougars.

Box Score DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Freshman forward Basha Ramsey led the Trojans with 10 points, but Trinity International fell behind early and were unable to pull off an upset over the No. 6 St. Xavier Cougars, dropping the home game, 94-50. Turnovers plagued the Trojans all night, as a total of 30 mishaps led to 39 Cougar points on the night.

The Trojans (3-22, 0-16 CCAC) held their only lead of the night on a game-opening jumper from sophomore JaToya Woods. After TIU got off to the early 2-0 start, St. Xavier rallied for seven straight points and took control of the game. 

St. Xavier (24-4, 14-2 CCAC) took a double-digit lead for the first time when SXU's Suzie Broski knocked down a jumper at the 11:21 mark of the first half. Trinity International briefly cut the lead back down to six, on back-to-back layups from Bri'ana Rowland and Rachel Carter making it a 15-9 Cougar advantage with 10:20 to play until the halftime break. SXU came back with five unanswered to go back in front by a comfortable margin, capped off with a Sidney Prasse three-pointer. TIU finished the final five minutes of the half being outscored 11-3, and went into the break trailing 42-22.

The visitors continued to control the game throughout the second half, outscoring the Trojans 52-28 in the second session.

Ramsey finished as the lone Trojan to score double-figures in the loss. Woods, along with Bri'ana Rowland nearly reached the mark, recording nine points apiece. Ramsey and senior Clarissa Woodard led TIU with seven rebounds each, whileArielle Miree collected a team-high five assists.

The Trojans will hit the road next week, when they travel to Arlington Heights to take on Robert Morris. Tipoff against the Eagles is set for Wednesday, Feburary 19, at 5:30 p.m.
