Trinity International struggles to get on the board in losses to the Knights and Cougars in final day of Florida swing

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MINNEOLA, Fla. -- Finishing their current eight-game trip through Florida, the Trinity International Trojans suffered a pair of tough losses, falling 21-0 to the Marian Knights in five innings, before dropping an 8-0 decision to the Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars on Friday morning.

The Trojans (0-8) were held to five hits over both games, including a single base hit against Marian. In the first game of the morning against the Knights, outfielder Jamie Weaver knocked a single through the left side to give Trinity their first baserunner of the day. Weaver had the chance to score the tying run in the first inning, after Marian (5-2) tallied a single run in the top of the first, but a pair of flyouts ended the opportunity.

Marian then put the game out of reach with 11 runs in the top of the second, including four unearned runs due to an error.

In the final game of the trip, TIU was more competitive, retiring the first four Cougar batters until a one-out walk came around to score on a fielding error. The Trojans put two on with back-to-back singles in the second inning, from Victoria Livingston and Samantha Payne, but stranded both runners to end the inning and give Mount Vernon Nazarene the early 1-0 lead.

Another big inning resulted in the game being all but decided, as the Cougars batted around in the third for seven runs, taking an 8-0 lead.

Livingston had the best day at the plate for Trinity International, going 2-for-2 against Mount Vernon Nazarene with a stolen base.

The Trojans will return to the midwest and open up the CCAC schedule next week, when they travel to Judson on Tuesday, March 18. The doubleheader in Elgin, Ill., is set to start at 5:00 p.m.
