Trinity International cranks out nine runs in the second game of a doubleheader at Calumet St. Joseph, picking up the first win in conference play this season.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHITING, Ind. -- Two very different performances from the Trinity International offense led to two different results, as the Trojans split a doubleheader with the Calumet St. Joseph Crimson Wave on Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-1 in game one, before winning game two 9-3. The Trojans posted just one hit in the first game of the day, before blowing up for the second-highest run total of the season, coming from behind to split the twinbill.

In game one, sophomore pitcher Dakota Pisarek pitched a complete 7-inning game, allowing nine hits and just three earned runs. The run support was lacking, however, as the Trojans (4-12, 1-3 CCAC) scored its lone run in the fourth inning on Adam Vignola's RBI single. Cameron Stanley, who reached base after drawing a hit by pitch, stole second base before coming home on Vignola's base knock.

Making his first appearance since the Trojans' spring break trip to Florida, pitcher Adam Gomski threw four and two-thirds innings, while striking out three. Gomski picked up his second win of the year, when the Trojans broke out for four runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Evan Athanasiou's two-out, two-RBI double, driving in Jordan Germosen and Justin VanderNaald.

The offensive breakthrough was led by the bottom of the TIU lineup; eight of the nine runs scored in the second game came from the Nos. 6 through 9 spots in the batting order.

Trinity extended their lead in the sixth inning with three more runs, as Stanley, Vignola and A.J. Bruner all picked up RBI. Two more runs followed in the seventh, where Stanley picked up his second and third RBI of the day wih a two-out single.

Jeff Lindberg made his second apperance on the mound when he relieved Gomski in the fifth inning. The freshman scattered five hits while allowing just one run over four and a third innings.

The Trojans will look to put together a winning streak later this week, when they begin a three-game series with St. Xavier. TIU will travel to Chicago and take on the Cougars in a single, nine-inning game on Friday, before hosting SXU in the home opener on Saturday. First pitch at the TIU Baseball Field on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
