Box Score 2 WHEELING, Ill. -- Although the final score doesn't show it, the Trinity International Trojans had their most competitive matchup in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon with the Trinity Christian Trolls, ultimately falling 14-3 in game one, and 12-4 in game two. The Trojans held an early lead in the second game of the day, and trailed by just three runs late before a big TCC rally put the game away.
The Trojans (0-12, 0-4 CCAC) avoided the run rule for the first time this season in the second game of the doubleheader, but first dropped a five-inning matchup with the Trolls. Trinity Christian put together a nine-run rally in the second inning, claiming an early 11-2 advantage.
After giving up a pair of first-inning runs, the Trojans answered with two of their own, as Victoria Livingston and Jamie Weaver each drove in runs to tie the game at the end of the first. Melodee Aguirre recorded the third RBI of the game with her fourth-inning double, driving in Samantha Payne, who led the inning off with a triple.
Payne also pitched the first three innings of the opening game, allowing 11 runs on 11 hits over three innings. The senior also pitched a complete game in the nightcap, giving up just five earned runs on 13 hits.

The Trolls answered in the fourth inning, rallying for five runs to claim a 5-2 lead. TIU made it a two-run game with another score in the fifth inning, when Jamie Weaver cranked an RBI double to drive in Ashley O'Brien. After the Trolls got the run back in the top of the sixth, TIU had stayed within reach until the top of the seventh, when TCC struck for six runs to essentially close out the win. Jamie Stanton tallied the fourth run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, but TIU could not put together the comeback.
O'Brien had the strongest day at the plate for the Trojans; the junior went 4-for-7 combined on the day, with four singles and a run scored.
The Trojans resume conference play on Thursday, when they take on the No. 5-ranked St. Xavier Cougars in a doubleheader in Chicago. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
