Box Score 2 | Season StatsBENSENVILLE, Ill. -- Finishing out the 2014 regular season, the Trinity International Trojans fell in both ends of a doubleheader to Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon, dropping the first game by a 13-1 margin, and 10-2 in game two.
The Trojans (0-28, 0-20 CCAC) collected 12 base hits on the day, but seemingly struggled with runners on base, leaving a combined 11 runners stranded. Robert Morris (12-31, 6-14 CCAC) struck early in the first game, rallying for five runs on four hits to take a big early lead. The Eagles combined for five more runs in the second inning, then adding three more in the bottom of the fourth for a 13-0 advantage.
TIU got on the board in the top of the fifth, as
Ashley O'Brien reached base with the second of her two singles in the game. After being bunted over and advancing to third on a fly ball, O'Brien scored on
Samantha Payne's plate appearance when the Eagles failed to end the inning by committing an error in the infield. The Trojans were unable to keep the rally going, however, falling to RMU in five innings on the run rule, 13-1.
Robert Morris again took a first-inning lead in the second game of the day, this time with just a single run to go ahead 1-0. Trinity answered with a two-out rally in the top of the second, as
Justine Wigboldy smacked a double down the right field line, then scored on O'Brien's single to right field, tying the game at 1-1.
After the Eagles pushed another run across in the bottom of the frame, the Trojans again tied the score in the top of the 3rd.
Tina Lebar reached base after being hit by a pitch, then scored all the way from first on a two-out double from Payne to left-center.
With a 2-2 tie game, the Eagles pulled away in the third and fourth innings, taking a 4-2 lead at the end of the 3rd with a pair of two-out doubles, then exploding for six runs in the fourth inning. The Trojan bats went quiet down the stretch, knocking just one hit over their final eight at-bats.
O'Brien finishes the 2014 season with the season's longest hitting streak for TIU, recording a hit in the team's last six games. The junior finishes with a team-high seven multi-hit games throughout the year, and a .338 batting average.
