Season Stats: Trinity International | Bethel (2013)
Quick Notes
 • The non-conference schedule continues for the Trinity International Trojans, who will take on the Bethel (Ind.) Pilots in the first road game of the season.
 • Trinity International suffered a 2-1 defeat to Spring Arbor (Mich.) last week to begin the 2014 season.
 • The Trojans and Pilots both have 1-1-1 records in the overall series, since 2007. The two sides last met in 2009, when Bethel earned a 2-0 win.
Last Time Out  Â
 • In the home opener for TIU, freshman forward Wes Ditchfield came on as a subsitute in the 27th minute before scoring the Trojans' lone goal of the game in a 2-1 loss to the Spring Arbor (Mich.) Cougars.
 • SAU's Stevenson Storm scored twice for the Cougars, before Ditchfield brought TIU back to within a goal with his strike in the 60th minute.
 • In his first collegiate match, sophomore goalkeeper Brad Stough held his own, making eight saves while facing a total of 17 shots, and playing the full 90 minutes in the season-opener.
40th Anniversary  Â
 • This season marks the 40th anniversary of the 1974 NCCAA National Championship, won by Trinity College. The Trojans were one of four Christian colleges to be invited to the tournament, which was in its third year of existance.Â
 • Hosted by Covenant College (Ga.), Trinity College defeated Bryan (Tenn.) 3-2 in the semifinals, before earning a 2-1 win over Messiah (Pa.).
 • The 2014 squad will honor the NCCAA Champions with a special patch on their warmup jackets. The Trinity Soccer shield is featured in gold trim, along with a gold star above the shield, signifying the program's lone national title.
 • Since 1974, Trinity has made 5 appearances in the NCCAA National Tournament, most recently in 2008. The Trojans hold a 7-5 record in NCCAA Tournament play.
Scouting the Opponents
Bethel Pilots
 • The Pilots struggled to a slow 1-6 start last season, before rebounding and finishing the year with a 7-10-2 record. Bethel finished fourth in the Crossroads League, with a 4-3-2 mark in league play.
 • Bethel is anchored by a pair of returning All-Crossroads League honorees, in senior defender Ricardo Carvalho, and sophomore forward Ricardo Zambonino. The pair combined for 19 goals scored throughout the season, with Zambonino recorded a team-leading 11 goals. Carvalho averaged 2.63 shots on goal per game, the seventh-highest average in the NAIA.
 • Going back to 2007, TIU and Bethel have each gone 1-1-1 against on another. After a 1-1 draw in 2007, the Trojans earned a neutral-site win, 2-1 in Xenia, Ohio the following season. Bethel picked up their win in 2009, in a 2-0 shutout at Schartner Field.
Good Sports
 • For the second time in the past three seasons, the Trinity International men's soccer team earned the CCAC Karl Boeck Conference Champions of Character Team Award. The team honor goes to the squad that displays the best sportsmanship throughout the season in the CCAC, which the Trojans have earned in both 2011 and 2013.
 • Currently, Trinity is the team with the longest streak without a red card in the CCAC, and have gone five full seasons since seeing one of their players sent off. They were also one of three teams in the league (Olivet Nazarene, Trinity Christian) without a red card in 2013.
