2013 Season Stats: Trinity International | Bethel
Quick Notes
 • The defending CCAC Tournament champion Trinity International Trojans are ready to kick off the new season this week, as TIU hits the road to face the Bethel (Ind.) Pilots on Tuesday afternoon.Â
 • The Trojans return their top four goalscorers from a year ago, led by junior forward Samantha Yasatan. Yasatan finished the season with 17 goals, good for fourth in the CCAC.
 • Nationally, Yasatan was 34th in the NAIA in goals scored, as well as 34th in total points, with 42.
 • Trinity International has won it's last two season-openers, defeating John Brown (Ark.) at Schartner Field, 4-1 in 2012, then going on the road and knocking off Siena Heights (Mich.) 2-1 last year.
 • The team is also coming off back-to-back 13-win seasons, and it's first NAIA postseason appearance since 2001.
 • Tuesday's match marks the first meeting between the Trojans and Pilots since at least 2007.
Last Time Out
 • The Trojans reached the Opening Round of the NAIA Women's Soccer Championship last season, falling to 13th-ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.), 4-1.
 • After MMC took a 1-0 halftime lead, sophomore Katheryn Simonsen (Baccash) scored an unassisted goal in the 47th minute, her first of the season.
In the Polls
 • Trinity International earned a spot in the NAIA Preseason Coaches Poll, released last week, earning a No. 25 ranking. The appearance gives TIU their third straight campaign in which they were nationally ranked at some point during the season.
 • The Trojans finished off last season as a nationally-ranked program, finishing the year at No. 25, after their late postseason run through the CCAC Tournament and into the NAIA Opening Round.
 • This season marks the first year the Trojans open a season as a nationally-ranked team in seven years. In 2007, TIU ranked No. 14 in the Preseason Poll.
 • TIU has been ranked in the Preseason Poll five times in program history, since the poll began in 1999. (2000-2002, 2007, 2014)
NCCAA Championship Anniversary
 • The TIU women's soccer program is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their second NCCAA National Championship, in 2004. The team will be honored with an anniversary sleeve patch on this year's uniforms, and will be recognized during the match against Calumet St. Joseph, as a part of the Homecoming Weekend festivities.
Scouting the Opponents
Bethel Pilots
 • The Pilots posted a 7-9-2 record last season, finishing in a three-way tie for fifth in the Crossroads League, with a 4-5 conference mark. Bethel reached the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League tournament, before falling to No. 9 Spring Arbor.
 • Senior foward Kylee Shipley is the team's leading returning goalscorer, finishing second on the team with four goals in 2013.
 • Junior goalkeeper Mallory Conrad also returns after playing the full season as a sophomore last year. Conrad collected 174 total saves, and a 2.03 GAA.
 • Head coach Jamie Lindvall begins his first season with Bethel. He has a career record of 70-162-12 over 14 seasons, after stops at The Master's (Calif.) and Northwest Nazarene (Idaho).
Good Sports
 • For the third straight season, the Trinity International women's soccer team earned the CCAC Karl Boeck Conference Champions of Character Team Award. The team honor goes to the squad that displays the best sportsmanship throughout the season in the CCAC.
 • Currently, Trinity is one of two programs with the longest streak without a red card in the CCAC, and along with Trinity Christian, have gone five full seasons since seeing one of their players sent off.
