#25 Trojans drop first match of season at #21 St. Ambrose
Box Score DAVENPORT, Iowa -- In the first top-25 battle of the season for the No. 25 Trinity International Trojans, a pair of first-half goals proved to be too much to overcome, as TIU fell to the No. 21 St. Ambrose Bees, 2-1. Junior forward
Samantha Yasatan scored in her fourth straight match, but the Trojans were unable to find the equalizer in the closing minutes.
Box Score | Season StatsSt. Ambrose had a slight edge offensively throughout the match, outshooting the Trojans, but only by a 10-8 margin. The Bees first got on the scoreboard in the 20th minute, when SAU's Melissa Bronke scored on an unassisted for the 1-0 advantage.
The Bees would take a 2-0 lead before the halftime break, when Bre Choffin would put a shot in the back of the net in the 36th minute.
The Trojans offense struggled to generate many chances, taking eight shots in the match, their lowest total of the early season. In the 82nd minute, Yasatan scored off of a
Kathryn Baccash pass to close the gap, but with eight minutes to play in regulation, TIU were unable get the potential game-tying goal to force extra time. The goal keeps the Trojans from surrendering a shutout this season, and extends the team's streak to five straight matches with a goal.
Trinity will look to rebound this Wednesday, when they return home to face off against another nationally-ranked opponent, as No. 20 Ashford (Iowa) visits Schartner Field. Kickoff against the Saints is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
