After starting out with an early 3-2 lead, the Cougars (5-8, 1-1 CCAC) went on a 9-2 run to take a commanding lead in the opening set. SXU would go on to take the set by a comfortable margin, leading 22-8 before the Trojans scored four straight thanks to four errors from the Cougars.

Trinity's best set came in the second, when the Trojans picked up 10 kills, and held St. Xavier to a -.143 hitting percentage. After a Marissa Boelter kill tied the set at 4-4, the Cougars would reclaim the lead with three straight points, and would stay in front throughout the rest of the set. Trailing 23-18, the Trojans went on a four-point run, highlighted by a pair of blocks from Voss to pull within a point at 23-22. TIU was called for a bad set on the next play, giving SXU game point, which they converted on a Trojan attack error to win the second game, 25-22.

The Trojans have an open weekend before resuming conference play a week from tonight. TIU will travel to Roosevelt on Tuesday, Sept. 23, to take on the Lakers starting at 7:00 p.m.
