The Trojans (4-1) match their second-highest offensive output of the year, with four goals, while recording their first shutout on the defensive end. CCAC-leading goal scorer Samantha Yasatan added to her total, scoring in both the 25th and 54th minutes, her third multi-goal performance of the year.

The win comes after a tough loss against a nationally-ranked opponent in No. 21 St. Ambrose (Iowa) last Friday; TIU bounced back with full force against the 20th-ranked Saints, outshooting their opponents 18-7 and generating six corner kicks in the match, while Ashford came away without a single opportunity.

Junior Morgan Elzinga put TIU on the board in the 9th minute, scoring her third goal of the season and giving her team an early 1-0 lead. The Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc. native charged the far post after a Layla Zahnizer shot got past the keeper but knocked off the post; Elzinga then put the rebound away for the score.

Yasatan then added her first goal of the day a few minutes later; the junior took a quick Michele Streekstra pass inside the box and buried the shot, putting TIU in front 2-0 and recording her seventh goal of the year.

Sophomore forward Brianna Bernholdt then got in the scoring action during the closing minutes of the first half. Breaking away in transition, Bernholdt took a pass from Yasatan while both sped down the middle of the field, and put away her first goal of the season. The Trojans went into the halftime break with a 3-0 advantage, and had out-shot Ashford by a 13-5 margin.

Yasatan then finished the night off with her second goal of the match in the 54th minute, assisted by senior midfielder Melissa Loretto. Yasatan continues her scoring streak with the pair of goals, as the Racine, Wisc. native has put her name on the scoresheet in all five matches this season. She also becomes the first player this season to record five points in a game, and the last since Elzinga scored five points against Holy Cross late last season.

Senior goalkeeper Liz Burzynski had a strong night in goal, but a quality performance from the Trojan back line meant that the Buffalo Grove native needed to make just one save throughout all 90 minutes. The shutout is the first of the year for Burzynski, and the 26th in her TIU career.

The Trojans will take the weekend off before preparing for CCAC play. TIU will head to Judson in the conference opener next Tuesday, September 16. Kickoff against the Eagles in Elgin is set for 4:00 p.m.
