Quick Notes
• The Trojans continue to look for their first win of the conference season, with a pair of road matchups this week, at Trinity Christian and Olivet Nazarene. Kickoff against the Trolls is set for 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Tigers will host Trinity International at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.
• Trinity International suffered a pair of tough, one-goal losses last week, with a 2-1 overtime loss at Judson, and a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Purdue-Calumet at home.
• With another victory this week, the Trojans will match their win total from last season while reaching the halfway mark of 2014.
• The Trojans currently rank second in the CCAC with 26 goals on the year, and are 21st on the NAIA leaderboard. Trinity Christian is 7th in the conference with 14 goals scored, while Olivet Nazarene sits in a tie with TIU with 26 goals of their own.
Last Time Out
• Zach Reget scored his team-leading 8th goal of the season, but the Trojans ultimately fell in overtime to the Judson Eagles, 2-1 on Wednesday. Reget's 71st-minute strike forced the extra session, but the Eagles were able to put away the game-winner four minutes into extra time.
• On Saturday, the Trojans suffered a 1-0 loss at home to the Purdue-Calumet Peregrines. Goalkeeper Sean Avila made five saves on the day.
• The shutout was the first for the TIU offense of the season, snapping a streak of 11 straight matches with at least one goal scored. The streak was the longest for TIU since a run of 11 straight matches between the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
40th Anniversary
• This season marks the 40th anniversary of the 1974 NCCAA National Championship, won by Trinity College. The Trojans were one of four Christian colleges to be invited to the tournament, which was in its third year of existance.
• Hosted by Covenant College (Ga.), Trinity College defeated Bryan (Tenn.) 3-2 in the semifinals, before earning a 2-1 win over Messiah (Pa.).
• The 2014 squad will honor the NCCAA Champions with a special patch on their warmup jackets. The Trinity Soccer shield is featured in gold trim, along with a gold star above the shield, signifying the program's lone national title.
• Since 1974, Trinity has made 5 appearances in the NCCAA National Tournament, most recently in 2008. The Trojans hold a 7-5 record in NCCAA Tournament play.
Stat Leaders
Team Stats
• As a team, Trinity International ranks 2nd in the CCAC in points (75), goals (26), goals per game (2.89), assists (23), and assists per game (2.56). Currently leading each of those categories ahead of the Trojans is Roosevelt.
• Nationally, TIU ranks 12th in the NAIA in shots on goal per game, at 9.44, 13th in assists per game, at 2.56, and 14th in total assists, with 23.
• The Trojans currently average the fewest fouls per match in the CCAC, at 7.0. The team has collected only four yellow cards on the season, fewest in the conference.
• Defensively, the Trojans average 1.67 goals allowed per game, ranking 4th in the CCAC. Trojan goalkeepers have averaged 4.89 saves in each match, the third-highest average in the league. TIU has one shutout on the year, against Iowa Wesleyan, but are three more clean sheets off the conference lead, held by Olivet Nazarene and Roosevelt.
Individual Stats
• Two Trojans are in the conference top ten goals list, led by Zach Reget with seven (4th in CCAC), and Wes Ditchfield with four (10th in CCAC). Reget has the league's second-highest goals-per-match average, at 1.17.
• Erik Yamane is tied for seventh in the CCAC, with four assists. he also ranks 41st in the NAIA in total assists.
• Reget is also on the national leaderboard, as his seven goals this season place him 26th nationally. The sophomore has 16 total points on the year, good for 38th in the NAIA and 5th in the CCAC.
Goalkeeping Performances
• Against Bethel (Ind.) on Aug. 26, sophomore Brad Stough made 13 saves in a 3-1 loss. His 13 saves are the 10th-highest single-match total in the NAIA, and the highest in the CCAC to date.
• The 13 saves were the most by a Trojan goalkeeper since 2008, when Lucas Zicher made 17 stops in a 2-1 loss to Hope (Mich.) on Sept. 5.
• Senior Sean Avila ranks 5th in the CCAC with a 1.64 goals against average, and is 7th in the league with a .677 save percentage.
• Stough has made a total of 23 saves on the year, ranking 5th in the CCAC. The freshman also has one shutout, tied for fourth on the conference leaderboard.
Scouting the Opponents
Trinity Christian
• The Trolls are also looking for their first point in CCAC action this year, with a 2-4-1 record overall.
• The team is averaging 2.00 goals per game, which ranks 7th in the CCAC. Defensively, their 2.57 goals against average is 9th-best in the conference.
• Mauricio Salgado is tied for 8th in the CCAC with five goals on the year, and is tied for 7th on the conference's assists leaderboard.
• Trinity Christian holds a 5-3 record against Trinity International since 2007, but the Trojans won in their last meeting, 1-0 at Schartner Field last season.
Olivet Nazarene
• The Tigers are sitting at 5-4 on the year, having won three of their last four matches, including a 3-2 win over Judson last weekend.
• Two of ONU's four losses have been shutouts, while the Tigers defense has recorded a CCAC-high four clean sheets of their own.
• Olivet Nazarene is averaging 2.89 goals per match, and are tied for 2nd in the CCAC with TIU. They allow just 1.2 goals on the other end of the field, good for third-best in the league.
• As a team, ONU ranks 5th nationally in the NAIA, with an average of 11.0 shots on goal each match.
• The Tigers lead the series with TIU, 5-1-1 since 2007. The Trojans will look for their first point against Olivet Nazarene since that first matchup over that stretch, in 2007.
