ELGIN, Ill. -- Freshman hitter
Mickayla Staal led Trinity International with eight kills, while
Gabrielle LaMonaca anchored the back line with 14 digs, but the Trojans ultimately fell to the Judson Eagles, 25-18, 25-18, 25-13, Tuesday night in CCAC action.
Box Score | Season Stats | CCAC StandingsThe Trojans had their best attacking performance in their last five matches, knocking down 24 kills on the night while hitting for a .083 percentage.
Judson jumped out to early leads in all three sets, as the Trojans were unable to grab a lead in the first or second sets. TIU rallied late in the first, scoring six straight points after trailing 22-12, highlighted by a pair of aces served up by
Becca Kowalczuk. The Eagles finished out the opener with three straight points to win 25-18.
In the second set, Judson built an early 11-3 lead that gave enough cushion to take the set the rest of the way, despite the Trojans outscoring JU after the big defecit.
An early kill from Staal in the third game helped set up an early 2-2 tie, but the Eagles answered with two more scores to reclaim the lead. Judson then extended their lead, ultimately closing out the match on a 13-4 run.
The Trojans will now prepare for the first of two CCAC Crossover tournaments, beginning Friday, October 3 at St. Xavier. Trinity will face off against St. Francis, Purdue-North Central, and Indiana-South Bend in conference matches, beginning with the Saints at 4:00 p.m.
