DEERFIELD, Ill. - A first-half goal for Trinity International nearly stood up, but a late strike near the end of regulation led to a 1-1 draw on Homecoming Saturday between the Trojans and the visiting St. Francis Saints.
Box ScoreThe Trojans (4-3-2, 2-1-1 CCAC) outshot the Saints by a 14-9 margin throughout the match, but of the six shots on goal, came away with the single tally.
Morgan Elzinga collected her team-leading fifth goal of the year in the 32nd minute to give Trinity the 1-0 edge.
With less than 15 minutes to play in regulation, St. Francis found the equalizer, off the foot of USF's Leslie Rueda. The Trojans took a pair of shots in the closing minutes, but
Isabelle Danner's attempt was blocked, and Samantha Yastan missed wide.
Trinity had the majority of chances in the extra periods, outshooting USF 5-2 over the final 20 minutes. Yasatan and
Jillian Kolster each had shots on target that were saved by the St. Francis keeper to keep the match alive.
For the Trojans, freshman
McKenzie Chappell played all 110 minutes in goal, making two saves and allowing just the single score.
Trinity returns to Schartner Field on Wednesday afternoon, when they host Judson in CCAC play. Kickoff against the Eagles is set for October 7 at 4:00 p.m.
