PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - Trinity International finished over the century mark for the third straight game, with
Thomas Amrine leading the way with 22 points as the Trojans earned a 109-79 win over Lincoln Christian (Ill.), Saturday afternoon at the Trinity Christian Troll Classic.
Box Score | Season StatsFive Trojans finished in double figures, led by Amrine, who shot 6-for-13 from long range in the win. Junior
Zach Kirschbaum recorded his second double-double at TIU, finishing with 12 points and 11 boards. Jeremy and
Greg Carlyle each posted 11 points, while
James Glass tallied ten.
"To come out and put up 109 again today was a credit to our team's depth and ability to move the ball," said TIU head coach
Boomer Roberts after the win. "LCU plays hard, and for the majority of 40 minutes we matched or exceeded that. Thomas did what he does best, our three point guards controlled the game, and I'm really happy with the week that Zach had for us; he was terrific in the paint."
Trinity (4-1) jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead, with four different players knocking down field goals in the opening four and a half minutes of play. Lincoln Christian (1-2) quickly rallied however, tying the game at 12-12 at the 13:39 mark of the first half.
A three-pointer from LCU's Michael Fisher gave the Red Lions their biggest lead of the night with 9:05 to play in the half, at 25-21. From that point throughout the rest of the first half, the Trojan defense allowed just a single point, going on a 29-1 run to end the half, and take a 50-26 lead at the break.
Lincoln Christian came out to start the second half scoring seven of the first nine points in a little over a minute, but the big TIU lead was too much to overcome. The Trojans' advantage would grow to as much as 42 points on an Amrine three-pointer with 9:23 to play, before the Lions would trim the deficit down the stretch.
The Trojans return home to open up the CCAC schedule this Wednesday night, when they host the St. Xavier Cougars. "We've got a heck of a challenge coming Wednesday, but we're excited about it," Roberts said about the conference opener.
Tipoff from Van Dixhorn Arena is set for 7:30 p.m., with streaming video available at TIUTrojans.com.
