Men's Basketball comes up short in exhibition matchup with Chicago State

CHICAGO, Ill. - Grant Corsi posted a season-high 27 points, while James Glass scored double figures for the eighth straight game, but the host Chicago State Cougars would use a big run at the start of the second half to defeat Trinity International, 81-70 Saturday afternoon in exhibition play.

Box Score

In their second game in less than 24 hours against an NCAA Division I opponent, the Trojans (5-2) played the Cougars even through the first half, going into the break with a 32-32 tie. Chicago State used a 17-5 run over the opening 3:29 of the second half to take their first double-digit lead of the day. CSU would go up by as much as 18 points, with a pair of free throws at the 2:04 mark of the second half, before Corsi and James combined for Trinity's final 11 points, cutting the deficit to 11 at the final buzzer.

Corsi led the Trojan offense thoughout the day, recording 13 points in the first half, and another 14 after the break. The junior went 11-for-18 from the field, including a 3-of-7 performance from beyond the arc.

Trinity led for the first six minutes of the game, as Zach Kirschbaum's three-pointer put TIU on the board with the first bucket of the day. James Glass would give Trinity a five-point advantage at the 17:22 mark, with a layup that put TIU in front 6-1. The two sides would trade the lead back and forth five times before the end of the half; Chicago State led for the majority of the half, but could never go ahead by more than six points until after the break.

"We're thankful for the opportunity by Coach Dildy to come compete with Chicago State," said TIU head coach Boomer Roberts after the game. "We played well for about 35 minutes, but it takes 40 to beat a Division 1 team. We had some great looks that just didn't fall. Grant [Corsi] played very well, and James [Glass] competed like he usually does. We got better this weekend, no question; I'm really proud of our group."

The Trojans will re-enter CCAC play on Monday, when they travel to Elgin and face the Judson Eagles. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
