ATCHISON, Kan. - Two goals in the final 30 minutes ended what was a defensive battle, as the 4th-seeded Benedictine (Kan.) Ravens defeated No. 19 Trinity International, Saturday afternoon in the 2015 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round.
A scoreless match for the first hour of play, Benedictine broke through in the 63rd minute, with a 25-yard strike from Liz Enna, who fired from the right and hit the far post for the eventual game-winner. The Trojans pressed forward, but a second goal from BC's Liz Intfen in the 78th minute off a Raven corner kick clinched the match for the home team.
The Trojans had a number of looks at goal, but overall struggled to consistently generate chances, as Benedictine controlled possession and outshot TIU 20-3.
Trinity finishes the 2015 season with a 13-5-4 overall record and their second CCAC Tournament championship in the last three years. TIU has reached 13 or more wins for four consecutive seasons.
