DEERFIELD, Ill. - Senior forward
Samantha Yasatan recorded her first hat trick of the season, as Trinity International earned a 4-3 victory over the St. Francis Saints on Friday afternoon, in the CCAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
Box Score | Season StatsThe 4th-seeded Trojans (11-4-3) came out firing early, and looked poised for a blowout win, after three first-half goals put the 5th-seeded Saints (11-5-2) down 3-0 after just 25 minutes of play. Freshman
Jillian Kolster started the day off with her 7th-minute goal, finding the back of the net with a rebound from
Nicole Post's shot just seconds earlier.
Just five minutes later, Yasatan scored the first of her three goals and her 10th of the year. In the 25th minute, the Racine, Wisc. native struck again to put the Trojans in front by three.
The Saints didn't fold, battling back to score twice before the halftime break. USF's Kathia Arredondo put her team on the board with a goal in the 37th minute, and Leslie Rueda made it a one-goal game in the 43rd.
The score remained close throughout the second half; Yasatan appeared to give her team some room, scoring for a third time with less than a minute on the clock. The senior took over the team lead in goals, marking her 12th of the season, as well as her 8th in the last five matches.
St. Francis again countered, as Rueda struck again just eight seconds later to pressure the Trojans once more. TIU were able to hold possession the rest of the way however, coming away with the postseason victory.
The win marks the second straight season that Trinity has defeated St. Francis in the CCAC Tournament by a single goal; the Trojans earned a 3-2 semifinal win at Schartner Field in 2014, to clinch a berth into the NAIA Women's Soccer Championship.
The Trojans will now face 8th-seeded Judson, who earned a penalty-kick upset win over CCAC regular season champions St. Ambrose. Kickoff from Schartner Field in the CCAC Tournament Semifinal is set for Tuesday, November 10, at 1:00 p.m.
