Danny Mattero threw two touchdown passes in limited time, while three receivers -
Brad Hargis,
Dillon Turk, and
Cory Windle, all brought in TD receptions. Mattero also lead the team in rushing, picking up 59 yards on eight carries.
After the Saints (4-5) went up 3-0 with an early field goal, the Trojans responded on their next possession with a seven-play, 72-yard drive capped off with Turk's 12-yard touchdown catch from Mattero. The Trojans (2-8) held their lead until midway through the second quarter, when Siena Heights marched 70 yards in 11 plays for a two-yard TD run with 7:11 left in the half.
Instead of heading to the locker room with a lead, the Saints looked to put more points on the board in their final drive of the first half. Linebacker
Riley Schussler took advantage, grabbing his second interception of the season on 3rd and 10, returning the ball 77 yards, down to the SHU 1-yardline. Three plays later, Mattero completed to Windle in the middle of the field for the score, re-taking the lead at 13-10.
The Saints attack responded in the third quarter, scoring on the first three drives of the third quarter. SHU extended their lead in the fourth with a touchdown drive followed by an interception returned for the score.
Quarterback Zach Chesser got one back early in the fourth, connecting with
Brad Hargis for the 51-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the drive. The Saints would tack on a field goal to close out the scoring, resulting in the 44-20 final.
The Trojans return to Leslie Frazier Field next week, when they host the Taylor (Ind.) Trojans for the final game of the season. Kickoff for Senior Day is set for 12:00 p.m.
