DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Five players finished in double figures, including three seniors in likely their final home game of their collegiate careers, as Trinity International held off the Robert Morris Eagles, 80-74, Wednesday Night inside Van Dixhorn Arena. Senior Sam Salem finished with a team-high 17 points, while fellow upperclassmen Justin Peeples and Nate Ball finished with 13 and 11 points each. Ball came up just short of a double-double on the night, pulling down nine rebounds.

The Trojans took an early lead, before a quick 10-1 run spanning a little over three minutes put Robert Morris in front, 14-9. The Eagles would lead by as much as eight in the first half, after a three-pointer from RMU's Alexander Marzette at the 7:09 mark made it a 22-14 score.

Trinity would battle back, as Sean Smith grabbed the offensive rebound off a missed free throw, and scored the layup with less than three minutes to play until the halftime break tied the game at 26-26. Ball's free throw in the closing seconds of the half put TIU in front 33-32 at the break.

After a pair of Marzette free throws briefly moved RMU in front to start the second half, one of Salem's trio of three-pointers gave the Trojans a two-point edge with 18:10 to play. TIU would hold onto the lead the rest of the way, despite an RMU comeback down the stretch.

The TIU lead reached double figures with a 7-0 run, that put the Trojans ahead 48-38 with 14:02 on the clock. Their biggest lead of the night came midway through the second half, when Peeples scored the layup with 8:05 remaining, giving the Trojans a 60-46 edge.

Over the final three minutes, the Eagles started to make their run, outscoring TIU down the stretch and cutting the deficit for four points, 68-64, with 2:19 to play. A pair of free throws made it a one-point game with :33 on the clock, but the Trojans would ice the game from the free throw line. Senior Paul Badgley put the game away, knocking down all four of his free throw attempts in the final seconds to give TIU a five-point edge that would be enough to secure the win.

Along with the three top-scoring seniors, Thomas Amrine and Josh Markum each finished with 11 points off the bench, hitting a combined five three-pointers in the win. Ball led the Trojan defensive with a game-high five blocks.

The win is the first for the Trojan program against Robert Morris since the Eagles moved to NAIA Division II. The Trojans will learn where they are headed for the first round of the CCAC Tournament after the season finale, set for Saturday, February 21, at St. Francis. Tipoff against the No. 24 Saints is set for 7:00 p.m.
