SELMER, Tenn. -- Sophomore
Adam Gomski collected a team-high four hits over three games, hitting for a .444 average, but the Trinity International pitching staff struggled to contain the Trinity Christian offense, as TIU fell in each game of a tripleheader on Saturday afternoon by scores of 12-4, 14-5, and 14-0.
Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2 | Game 3 | Season StatsThe Trojans were held off the scoreboard until the final inning in the first game, after TCC had built a 12-0 edge through six and a half innings. A leadoff walk from
Joshua Crist, followed by a Gomski double and another walk from
Joshua Burgos set the table for
Treyvon Holloway and
Dante Navarro to drive in an RBI each. Another walk loaded the bases for
Evan Athanasiou, who picked up an RBI after getting hit by a pitch.
Jon Debowey's two-out single made it a four-run inning, before TCC finally retired the side and closed out the opener.
In game two, Trinity took an early lead on Gomski's first-inning single, driving home
Colt Foerch for a 1-0 lead. Trinity Christian answered with runs in the bottom of the first and second innings, before the Trojans put up a crooked number in the third. A pair of walks put runners on ahead of Debowey, who cranked a double to center, driving in Foerch. In the next at-bat, Gomski singled through the left side of the infield, allowing Athanasiou to give the Trojans a 3-2 lead, but Debowey was thrown out a home trying to make it a two-run lead. Back-to-back singles from
Justin VanderNaald and Crist drove in another run before the inning was done, and TIU took a 4-2 edge.
The Trolls put the game away in the later innings, however, in a big way; TCC scored five runs in the fifth, and six more in the sixth to take what was a nine-run win.
The TIU bats were quiet in game three, as the Trojans were shut out despite scattering seven hits and three walks. Foerch and Burgos each collected a pair of hits in the nightcap.
The Trojans have one more date scheduled with Trinity Christian before their spring break trip to the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, as Trinity plans to take on the Trolls this Tuesday, March 3rd from Palos Heights, Ill.
