PEWAUKEE, Wisc. -- A total of eight Trojans recorded a base hit, including four different multi-hit performances, but a nine-run rally from the Cardinal Stritch Wolves dealt Trinity International a 15-8 loss in come-from-behind fashion Thursday afternoon.
Box Score | Season Stats | CCAC StandingsThe Trojans held an 8-3 lead after scoring four runs in the top of the 6th inning, when Cardinal Stritch answered with nine runs in the bottom half of the frame to claim a 12-8 edge.
After CSU scored the first run of the day with a solo shot in the 1st inning,
Cameron Stanley tied the game with his RBI single in the top of the 2nd, driving home Jon Grotelueschen. The Wolves added another run in the 2nd before TIU broke out with a three-run 3rd inning, with three straight two-out singles, followed by a fielding error that allowed
Andrew Grotelueschen and
A.J. Bruner to score.
Leading 4-3 through five innings, the Trojans broke through to take a big lead in the 6th. Singles from
Jon Debowey and Stanley set the table for
Jeff Lindberg's two-out RBI single, followed by
Adam Vignola's 2-RBI double to right.
Adam Gomski then drove home Vignola with his single through the left side on the next play, giving the Trojans an 8-3 lead.
Trinity needed three pitchers to get through the bottom of the 6th, however, as Stritch tallied nine runs on just three hits and one error. CSU's bullpen kept the Trojans off the scoreboard the rest of the way to secure the win.
Vignola and Gomski each collected three hits on the day, each going 3-for-5. Vignola matches the season's longest reached-base streak for Trinity, having gotten about in each of the last 13 games.
The Trojans wrap up their current road trip with a single-game contest at Judson on Friday afternoon. First pitch against the Eagles is set for 1:00 p.m.
