BENSENVILLE, Ill. -- Despite a seven-run rally midway through the first game, Trinity International were unable to avoid the doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Robert Morris Eagles in the 2015 season finale on Thursday night. The Trojans dropped a 10-7 decision in the opening game, before falling 21-1 in five innings during game two.
Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2The Eagles jumped out to a three-run lead in the bottom of the 2nd, then added another run on a sacrifice fly in the 3rd to build a 4-0 advantage. The Trojans began their rally in the top of the 4th, when the first three batters reached safely;
Justine Wigboldy on a fielding error, and
Alyssa Doomis and
Jamie Stanton on a pair of singles.
Emily Doomis drove in the first run of the day with a one-out single to right to put the Trojans on the board.
Danielle Donorovich's two-out, two-RBI single up the middle then made it a one-run game, as Stanton and
Victoria Livingston came around to score. Two straight errors brought home two more runs, giving Trinity the 5-4 lead. In her second plate appearance of the inning, Wigboldy hit an RBI single to center field, and finally
Alyssa Doomis' second base hit of the 4th would cap the rally off as
Ashley O'Brien came home to make it a 7-4 TIU lead.
Season Stats | CCAC StandingsThe lead wouldn't last, however, as Robert Morris responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame, then tied took the lead with three more runs in the bottom of the 5th, for a 9-7 edge.
Trinity would manage just one hit the rest of the way after their big inning, as the Eagles took the 10-7 victory.
In game two, RMU would score in each inning, while the Trojans left a combined five runners on base over the first three frames. Six runs in the 2nd, followed by seven runs in both the 3rd and 4th proved to be enough for the Eagles to take the win on the run rule.
Alyssa Doomis was the lone Trojan with multiple hits in both games, going 4-for-7 on the day.
Emily Doomis and Donorovich both went 2-for-3 in the first game, with a combined three RBI and two runs scored.
The Trojans have now finished out the 2015 softball season, with an overall record of 1-30.
Alyssa Doomis finishes her freshman season with a .338 batting average to lead the team.
