MEQUON, Wisc. - In their road debut, Trinity International secured their second victory in as many matches with a 2-1 overtime win over the host Concordia (Wisc.) Falcons on Monday afternoon.
Box Score | Season StatsTrinity (2-1) took a brief first-half lead in the 23rd minute, with
Joseph Sanborn's first goal of the season; the junior picked up the goal off a free kick towards the front of the goal, sent in by
Zach Reget. Just seven minutes later, Concordia (2-1) found the equalizer from 20 yards out, as CUW's Keegan Van Dusseldorp recorded his fourth goal of the year.
Despite a combined 37 shots taken in regulation, including a 13-7 shooting margin in favor of the Falcons in the second half, neither side could find the game-winning goal until the first overtime period. With another free kick from Reget, junior defender
Noah Smith found the back of the net in the 97th minute to give the Trojans their first overtime victory of the year.
Reget finished with a team-high six shots taken on the day, to go with his pair of assists. Reget, Smith, and
Zack Cemail each finished with two shots on goal to lead the Trojans. Freshman goalkeeper
Jared Yonke picked up his second straight win, making a career-high nine saves.
With the win, Trinity improves to above .500 on the season, for the first time since 2012, when the team won three of their first four matches. That run also marks the last time TIU had won three straight matches, a feat the team hopes to accomplish on Wednesday. The Trojans will head north again on September 9 to face an NCAA Division III opponent, this time against the Lakeland (Wisc.) Muskies. Kickoff from Plymouth, Wisc. is set for 4:30 p.m.
