SOMERS, Wisc. - Sophomore guard
Jeremy Carlyle led Trinity International with 18 points, but the Trojans were unable to keep pace with the host Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers, falling to the NCAA Division II foe 101-70 in exhibition play Saturday afternoon.
Box Score
Carlyle kick-started a 10-2 run for the Trojans to open the game, hitting the first of his five three-pointers just 12 seconds into the game.
Henry French pitched in with four quick points as well, including a fast-break dunk as Trinity came out strong.
The host Rangers responded in a big way, using a 24-2 run to move in front 26-12 midway through the first half. The Trojans were held without a field goal for three straight minutes, then after
Zach Kirschbaum's jumper at the 13:33 mark, were kept without a field goal for another four minutes, before Carlyle's three ended the drought with 8:35 left to play in the first half.
"It's been a tough week for us, but we're learning a lot," said TIU head coach
Boomer Roberts. "We had another great start, but credit Parkside for the way they guarded. They are big, physcial, and win a lot of games every year for a reason."
A three-pointer from Kirschbaum brought the Trojans back to within ten points at the 5:55 mark, but Parkside would respond with seven straight to build their lead to 38-21. The Rangers would close out the half with the last five to take a 50-28 halftime lead. Carlyle finished with nine first-half points to lead Trinity, going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Wisconsin-Parkside continued to grow their lead in the second half, coming out after the break with a 12-2 run. The Rangers would take their largest lead of the day with 8:10 to play, 86-52 after a layup-and-foul. Carlyle finished as the Trojans' leading scorer again in the second half, with another nine points.
Zach Kirschbaum and
Will Davidson both led the team with four rebounds on the day.
Grant Corsi dealt out four assists to pace the Trojans.
"We've got some guys banged up that will hopefully be healthy soon," said Roberts. "We'll keep plugging away."
Trinity will return to Van Dixhorn Arena on Tuesday, November 22, when they will host the Judson Eagles. Tipoff in the CCAC matchup is set for 7:30 p.m.
